Capture the beauty of  perfect flowers from your garden by cutting them when they are slightly immature or at their peak and press dry to make floral pictures. When selecting a picture frame for this project, choose one where the cardboard backing (which supports the photograph) is held into place by clips or levers, and not one where the backing, photograph and glass slide in and out of the frame.

Step 1
Turn or unclip the fasteners on the back of the frame and take the frame apart. It should have three primary parts: the glass, picture backing (typically made from cardboard) and the frame.

Step 2
Lay the picture backing (from the frame) on the filler material and trace around it with a pen. You can use a thin sheet of quilt batting, heavy fabric or similar material as the filler.

Step 3
Cut the traced shape from the filler. Make the piece of filler identical in dimension to the picture backing.

Step 4
Lay the picture backing on the fabric. The fabric will be the canvas for your picture, so select a solid dark color. Dark velvet makes an attractive canvas.

Step 5
Trace around the picture backing onto the fabric, making the drawing about 1 to 2 inches larger on all sides. Make the fabric (used for the canvas) the same shape as the picture backing, but larger, so it can wrap around the picture backing on all sides. Cut out the piece of fabric.

Step 6
Lay the frame upside down and insert the glass.

Step 7
Lay the cut filler piece on the picture backing and cover it with the cut piece of fabric, centering the fabric over the other two pieces.

Step 8
Insert the backing/filler/fabric into the frame, fabric side first. This is to test the fit and snugness of the filler. The fabric should firmly press against the glass. If you don’t have a snug fit, add another layer of filler. If it is too snug, and the frame won’t refasten, replace the filler with something thinner.

Step 9
Glue the filler to the picture backing and allow it to dry before moving to the next step. You only need a few drops of glue to attach.

Step 10
Lay the fabric facedown on a counter. Smooth out the fabric so it is completely flat.

Step 11
Lay the backing/filler piece on the fabric, filler side down. Center the backing/filler in the middle of the fabric.

Step 12
Turn the sides of the fabric over onto the picture backing side and tape them into place. This will secure the fabric to the backing with the filler sandwiched in the middle.

Step 13
Turn the backing/filler/fabric over, so that the fabric is face-up.

Step 14
Arrange the pressed dried flowers artfully on the fabric using tweezers.

Step 15
Clean the glass thoroughly, using the glass cleaner and a lint-free rag.

Step 16
Set the glass atop your flower picture.

Step 17
Set the frame over the glass and flower picture and carefully grab the picture backing to secure the pieces together. Refasten the frame on the back of the picture backing by turning levers or inserting clips. This varies by frame design.
